3 Easy Ways To Lose Holiday Weight

Fred exploring level-headed weight loss products said he’d been on a weight loss program for a long time but one of the reasons why it was difficult for him is because he always ends up adding several extra pounds during the holidays! In essence whatever weight Fred would lose during the whole year would return during the holiday season!

Fortunately, a few years ago Fred discovered some amazing weight loss tricks which helped him avoid holiday weight gain during the last two holidays.

Here they are…

Cut down on sugar cravings with Oolong tea:

Sugar is very notorious for making a person gain weight quickly.

Sugar in itself is bad enough because it tends to dissolve quickly into the body and convert into fat deposits, but the worst part is that eating sugary foods tends to increase your sugar cravings all the more! In simple words, if you eat sugary foods, you would keep eating them more and more!

The best option is to avoid sugar as much as possible, which you could do with the help of Oolong tea! You may or may not be aware of it but Oolong tea is a good antidote for sugar! Make sure you drink one cup of Oolong tea once before your breakfast and again before going to bed! You would find it pretty easy to suppress your sugary cravings this way!

Eat slow:

Eat slowly and savor every bite of the food you eat; that way, it would be easier for you to kill the junk food cravings and eventually you would end up eating less junk foods than usual! Experts say that our brain takes at least twenty minutes to realize that we are full. If you eat too fast then you are not giving your brain a chance to know whether you need to eat anymore or not! Consequently you would end up eating a lot more food than you need to!

In fact a recent study has found that people who eat slowly have fewer chances of gaining weight in holidays than those who eat hurriedly!

Cut down on high-calorie food intake:

You already know that sugar-rich foods are bad for you, so you need to avoid them as much as you can! Other foods you should avoid are white flour, loaf, cakes, biscuits, cookies, etc., as well as drinks such as alcohol and soft drinks! Once you take these foods out of your food plan, weight control would become much more easier for you!

Benadryl And Melatonin A Perfect Match

I have been taking melatonin supplements for my sleep problems for sometime now and I am kinda feeling what others are saying about melatonin. It doesn’t seem to work for me anymore.

My girlfriends told me that a cocktail of Benadryl and melatonin does the trick better. Does it? What are the effects if I take both the melatonin and Benadryl?

You’re having trouble sleeping, you are trying so hard but you just end up wondering when you’re going to able to actually sleep. And when you finally get that much coveted snooze, something wakes you up and, voila! You’re back to “trying so hard but not quite succeeding”.

You’re not alone and you know that. Statistics show that 1 in every 8 people in America suffers from insomnia. But despite the popularity of sleeping pills and the advent of lower-risk sleep pills like Ambien and Lunesta, a lot of these insomniacs refuse Sleep problems to give in to these enticing TV commercials. Others, if not most, prefer to go the natural way.

The newest natural sleeping aid today is melatonin supplements.

These are synthetic forms of the hormone melatonin that naturally induces sleep and is normally produced by the pineal gland in the brain. However, this doesn’t work quite the way some users would want it. So, instead of taking double doses, they match it with another mild sleeping aid, Benadryl.

Benadryl is an antihistamine that happens to have a side effect of drowsiness. Benadryl and melatonin together seem to work just fine for some people, especially those experiencing jet lag and shift work sleep disorder. They report being able to sleep a few minutes after taking both Benadryl and melatonin and is able to maintain sleep for 6 to 8 hours.

A Benadryl-and-melatonin user suggests that limiting coffee and alcohol while on this regimen helps make it work better. It is also important that you know how to taper the doses when you feel that your sleep/wake cycle has returned to normal. Your brain and body becomes immune to the effects of Benadryl and melatonin when it is constantly exposed to high doses of these drugs. There are also sleep aid preparations that contain both Benadryl and melatonin but they are not sold without a prescription. Some claim that they work even better.

But then these two, Benadryl and melatonin, both causes sedation, drowsiness and slowed breathing and if I remember correctly, when two substances with the same effects are taken together, their combined effects would always border on the dangerous. And with Benadryl and melatonin together, it may even result to coma.

Now, they may seem harmless when taken separately but these two would potentiate its other’s effects once they are ingested together and drug interactions may arise. You might think that’s a good thing since they don’t work quite as well when taken alone. But you also have to bear in mind that when it comes to drugs, one and one doesn’t always comes out two. More often than not, it’s ten… or none.

Provigil For Depression And Narcolepsy Two Birds In One Stone

Is it safe to take Provigil for depression?
I understand Provigil is a drug for narcolepsy but it is also popular as a mood enhancer so I am assuming it would be perfect for depression. Besides, I heard this isn’t addicting at all so it’s totally safe, isn’t it?

Provigil (modafinil) is a new drug manufactured by Cephalon Inc and is FDA-approved for the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness and fatigue associated with narcolepsy and other sleeping disorders. However, it has been noticed that more than half of Provigil users are not narcoleptics at all, but choose to use the drug for its off-label uses. Provigil has been found to be a great memory booster and mood enhancer sans side effects common among traditional stimulants like amphetamines. Provigil is not yet recognized by the Sleep problems FDA as a mood and memory enhancer. However, several researches suggested that Provigil can be used as an effective adjunct therapy to patients experiencing clinical depression. Provigil was given to subjects with depression and it showed significant positive results after several days of trial. Now, you might be wondering what a drug for a sleep disorder like narcolepsy has to do with depression. Simple. The common features of clinical depression include lack of energy and hypersomnia, or excessive sleepiness. And if I remember correctly, these two are also major signs of sleep deprivation seen in narcolepsy which is exactly what Provigil is for. This drug is thought to act on the hypothalamus, the part of the brain involved in regulating mood and wakefulness, which means Provigil for depression could be a big possibility in the near future. Provigil also claims to have a lower potential for abuse, it being a neurostimulant which acts on specific receptors in the nervous system other than the so-called dopamine receptors that is associated with pleasure and euphoria leading to abuse and subsequent dependence. Provigil, in depression, simply enhances mood and induces wakefulness in near-natural and, apparently, safer ways. But let us not forget the fact that depression also causes sleeping disorders such as insomnia. Which means excessive use of stimulants can aggravate insomnia and further increase in excessive daytime sleepiness and fatigue. Not to mention excessive and prolonged use of stimulants can lead to depression. That is why we need the help of professionals to regulate the timing and dosage when taking Provigil for depression. A lot of things has to be taken into consideration before taking drugs, especially regulated ones such as Provigil for depression. A medication intended for one disorder with symptoms similar to another disorder may be used for that other disorder as long as it has been proven that using the medication for both of these disorders will be safe and not cause further complications. I guess there is lesser harm in waiting for the U.S. Food and Drug Authority’s approval than in going ahead and taking the drug especially without your doctor’s blessing. There are a lot of other ways to deal with excessive daytime sleepiness and sluggishness and depression. All you need to do is get up and look.

Latex Mattress

Latex Vs Memory Foam – Which Foam For Your Mattress?

Sleep is a very serious issue. We spend half our lives asleep so getting the perfect mattress should be prioritised. Not only is a mattress important for a perfect night’s sleep but  also a best down comforter is important for those who suffer from aches and pains. A poor mattress can hurt you – literally, we will discuss about mattress first although you also need a primaloft comforter to get better night sleep
Latex MattressTwo of the most popular types of mattress these days are memory foam and latex foam. Many people struggle to choose between the two types of foam for the best choice of mattress for them. This article gives you a break down of the differences between the 2 foams (latex vs memory foam) so you can make an informed and confident decision about your purchase.

Memory Foam

Memory foam is popular because it is supportive, comfortable and known to help those who struggle to get a restful night’s sleep. Memory foam is usually made from visco elastic foams that contour to your body. The more dense the foam is, the firmer the mattress is. However having a dense mattress also means it will last longer, and some of the problems associated with low density memory foam is that they tend to “stop working” sooner and potentially cost you more money in the long term. Density also matters in relation to your body weight too, so when choosing a mattress make sure it can withstand your weight!

Memory foam is very comfortable to sleep on – moreso than latex. However, most memory foam mattresses are made with harsh chemicals that are not good for the environment or for your health. This is why when you first purchase a mattress it has to be aired out to get rid of the chemical smell. There are some environmentally friendly memory foam mattresses available on the market that do not use the traditional petroleum-based chemicals and opt for plant-based chemicals instead.

One of the biggest drawbacks for memory foam is that it can cause overheating in some people. As an owner of a memory foam mattress, I have had no such problems with overheating and neither has my partner, however some people find that they get rather hot and sweaty. Some brands have tried to overcome this with airflow technology but looking at customer reviews, it suggests they haven’t fully.

Latex Foam

Latex foam mattresses can be found made from 100% latex, made from synthetic latex or a blend. Most companies choose not to use 100% natural latex as it is the most expensive but also most durable mattress available.

Latex foam is more natural than memory foam. It is much more breathable – something that memory foam struggles to be and thus it can cause one to overheat. Latex foam usually has pincore cells which make it more breathable and also let the foam contour to your body.

Latex foam is constructed from vulcanized sap from rubber trees, so from a health and environmental perspective latex is the better choice of foam.

Latex foam has a higher elasticity to it than memory foam has. When you sit on a memory foam mattress it will feel more solid and firm than a latex one. The latex foam will feel springy in comparison.

One worry about latex foam is the rare allergic reactions that xcan be tirggered for some people. This is usually only on skin contact though and with natural/synthetic latex mixes that are available, is highly unlikely to happen as the proteins that trigger the reaction are usually washed away.

Overall, latex foam seems to be the best choice if you want to confident you are getting an environmentally and healthy mattress, but may not be as comfortable or supportive as a memory foam. A great way to make sure you are making the right decision is to try before you buy at a local store if at all possible. This isn’t entirely necessary, as many foam mattresses now come with a free trial period, so if you do change your mind you can send it back.
